Independent evaluation and research
There is increasing recognition of the necessity to provide evaluative evidence to underpin new initiatives in health care.
A research team at Lancaster University, led by Professor Sheila Payne, will undertake independent evaluation of the Marie Curie Delivering Choice Programme. This will help provide independent and objective evidence of the success of the various service interventions being implemented in each project site, as well as assess whether objectives have been met.
Research think-tank The King's Fund is on board to undertake 'action research' with the programme. Working closely with Marie Curie Cancer Care, The King's Fund will evaluate the impact of the programme on the lives and experience of patients and their carers.
The research and evaluation work underway will assist the programme team in disseminating programme findings to other health, voluntary sector and social care providers across the UK, enabling solutions to be replicated.
