Key stakeholders share the plans for Barnet at a lunch event in
March 2007.
The Marie Curie Delivering Choice Programme will soon be benefiting palliative patients in Barnet, North London, with Phase I of the programme's first project in the capital now underway.
Another 'first' is that the outcome of the first two phases of the project will be a commissioning framework, which will help Barnet PCT channel its funding towards supporting existing high quality palliative care services, and improving the areas of palliative care that need it most.
Marie Curie Cancer Care is working with local partners to undertake phase one – understanding the current state of palliative care services in Barnet, and phase two – designing new service models. Local partners, led by Barnet PCT, will then take the proposals forward and implement them.
Douglas Bennett, Chief Executive of the North London Hospice, said:
"It's extremely exciting to be getting the project underway. It will help to achieve a higher priority for palliative care services in Barnet and identify the commissioning issues that need to be addressed. By gathering evidence of unmet need, as well as bringing all providers of services together, it will help to support the coordinated development of further high quality services for those at the end of life.
"It is our hope that this project will instigate positive, lasting change to the way palliative care is delivered in the area."
