Education and training

This initiative aims to ensure that people working in palliative care are able to access the education and training they need, to ensure high quality and appropriate delivery of care.

To ensure that professionals have access to appropriate palliative care education and training, a Skills and Training Coordinator was appointed to develop a deliver a training plan in conjunction with the Lincolnshire Education and Training Forum.

A new programme of training and education has been designed and is undergoing implementation. This combines existing courses with new initiatives, and involves use of community-based video conferencing facilities to allow easier access to palliative care training and education by reducing travel time and improving frequency of delivery.

Five video conferencing units are now operational across the county. Healthcare professionals are saving up to 250 miles in a round trip, meaning they can undertake essential training without spending hours on the road that they could be spending with patients.

Another outcome of this workstream is the development of a directory of courses available across Lincolnshire.
