Marie Curie Cancer Care Chief Executive, Tom Hughes-Hallett

The Marie Curie Delivering Choice Programme is such an important initiative. It provides practical solutions for patients who are dying, tailored to their local needs.

Minister for Health, Rosie Winterton MP and Tom Hughes-Hallett, Chief Executive, Marie Curie Cancer Care"We know people want to choose where and how they die, and who with. This affects everyone in the UK, and in this city.

“I must take this opportunity to thank our project partners, and salute the voluntary sector particularly, for their support.

“The Leeds project is a new challenge, with very different challenges to the first project in Lincolnshire. It is an opportunity for all, and not just those at the forefront of palliative care. Marie Curie Cancer Care has made a commitment to invest up to £3 million in the Leeds Project over three years, but welcomes the support of individuals, businesses and charitable trusts.

“Of course the economic impact of the Delivering Choice Programme must be viable and studies have shown that for every £1 invested in community care, £2 could be saved in the acute sector. Now our work from Lincolnshire supports this, which is a very exciting result.

"The Delivering Choice Programme is about patients and about care. I would ask everyone here to support the project.”
