Projects across the UK

Delivering Choice Programme Projects. The first project for the Delivering Choice Programme was launched by Marie Curie Cancer Care in Lincolnshire in October 2004. This was followed by a project in Tayside (Scotland) in December 2005; Leeds in May 2006; and Barnet (north London) in March 2007.

In September 2007, we launched a project in south-east London, followed by Somerset in June 2008 and Northumberland, Tyne and Wear in March 2009.

In addition, the Delivering Choice Programme has a number of projects which are using the programme’s online toolkit. They include Primary Care Trusts in Tower Hamlets, Norfolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney, Worcestershire and Heart of Birmingham.

Most recently, NHS trusts in Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Suffolk, West Essex, Barnsley and Westminster have also adopted the programme toolkit to start their local Delivering Choice projects.

Each project provides excellent opportunities to test and implement new ways of delivering service in a range of different environments: urban and rural settings, areas of deprivation and contrasting prosperity, and ethnically diverse communities.

In every project, we work in close partnership with a range of local service providers – including the NHS, social services as well as the voluntary and independent sectors – to deliver choice and the best possible palliative care services to patients and carers.
