Anita
83, died in June 2006
Anita had stomach cancer. Her condition had started to decline and she was suffering from increased pain and disorientation when she was first referred to the Rapid Response Team.
Simon, a Rapid Response Team Palliative Nurse, helped to settle Anita down at night as well as looking after her hygiene and dressing needs, managing her pain control and providing emotional support for her and for her husband, William, who said:
“Having the Rapid Response Team come was like someone throwing a lifebelt.
"The team gave me the confidence to phone in an emergency and helped me deal with difficult situations caring for Anita in a most efficient manner.”
Anita was able to stay at home in comfort and with dignity for as long as possible and, as was her wish, she was admitted into the private ward of the hospital two days before she died.
